In a thriller the Caracas Leones staged a dramatic comeback over the Dublin
Pubcrawlers winning by a score of 4 to 3 at Leones Field.
Caracas had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 4 base
hits. Carlos Guillen led off the inning for Caracas when he drew a walk.
Grady Sizemore next to the plate and he ripped a base-knock. Tadahito Iguchi
then smacked a single to load the bases. After an out was recorded, Kevin
Youkilis stepped up to the plate and he delivered a one-base hit driving in a
run. Josh Phelps stepped into the box and slapped a base-hit resulting in a
mighty exciting win for Caracas and the 29,326 home town fans in attendance.
Although they lost, Dublin did out-hit Caracas 13 to 9.
The win went to Doug Brocail(4-1) who allowed no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.
The loss was charged to Dontrelle Willis(1-8). He pitched 8 innings and
surrendered 7 hits and 6 walks.
Brocail and Jeff Keppinger were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after
the great come from behind victory. As Alan Dyche noted, 'A win like this
one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the
fans, the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen
runs!'
